Join the Waterloo Coin Society

We will be pleased to welcome you as a new member and our annual membership rates are quite reasonable for the whole family. Dues are per calendar year and include all of the benefits highlighted below and more. New members who sign up between September 1 and December 31 are deemed paid up for the following year.

We offer three classes of membership. All members are entitled to the same benefits.

  • Regular members (Adults 18 and over): $20 per year.
  • Spouses of regular members: $10 per year.
  • Junior members (up to 18 years of age): $5 per year.

Membership Discounts

We offer several options for a discounted first year of membership!

  • Students registered at any eligible Ontario university or college with valid student ID. Increase your knowledge and understanding of the global economy, history, arts and culture by exploring the world of numismatics! Use offer code STUDENT when signing up.
  • Members in good standing of the International Bank Note Society (IBNS). Use offer code IBNS when signing up.
  • Sign up at our annual coin show or at any of our promo days throughout the year.
  • Watch our Facebook page for periodic signup offers.

Promotional membership dues are $15 for regular members, $5 for spouses and $2 for juniors. Discounted rates are only available for your first year of membership and for people who have never been members before.

Membership Benefits

Members of the Waterloo Coin Society enjoy access to our monthly meetings which include an educational presentation, a 50-lot auction, refreshments, good fellowship and multiple draws in addition to dealer tables with opportunities to buy, sell, trade and evaluate your numismatic items. Your annual dues entitle you to receive 12 digital monthly newsletters, the right to consign material and bid in the monthly auctions, a personalized nametag and much more.

Furthering our aim of providing educational opportunities, we also offer our members reimbursement for completing the R.C.N.A. Correspondence Courses or Grading and Preservation Seminar.

From time to time, one of our dealer members organizes a bulk submission of coins for grading with ICCS at bulk rates. You can download the submission form here.

Member Referral Program

We offer a special member referral program that will save an existing member and a new member each $5. When signing up as a new member, if an existing member encouraged you to join, make this known on your application. Upon confirmation, you can save $5 on your first year of membership dues, and the member who referred you will get a coupon for $5 off their next renewal. Contact the Treasurer for additional information. This offer cannot be combined with other discounts.

Where do my membership dues go?

Your membership dues represent only a portion of the revenue that W.C.S. generates each year, and thus only covers a portion of the Society's expenses. In addition to the many benefits of membership listed above, your membership dues help to cover some of these costs:

  • Meeting room rental - Singlehandedly exceeding the total membership dues
  • Advertising and promotional expenses (flyers, cards, promo days)
  • Guest speaker honorariums
  • Volunteer recognition
  • General office expenses (postage, printing, bank fees, etc.)
  • Post office box and safety deposit box rental
  • Website hosting, domain name and maintenance fees
  • Purchase and preservation of items for our archives
  • Special events (August Peaches-n-Cream, Christmas meeting)
  • Multimedia equipment such as laptop, document camera and projector
  • Club membership in the R.C.N.A. and O.N.A.
  • Liability insurance that allows us to meet, host a coin show and more
  • Discounts to attract new members
  • Sending club members to numismatic conventions
  • Donations to the community
  • ...and more!

It takes a lot to run a coin club but at the Waterloo Coin Society we make sure all of it is put to good use for our members. Next time you consider the cost of your annual membership, consider the value that you are getting out of your membership and everything that the Waterloo Coin Society does for you.
