Facts about the WCS

 

WCS has met in 7 different locations since 1959

WCS has always had a 8pm draw.

WCS had member displays with judging at regular club meetings until 1975

WCS has had a famous Christmas cake for December draw prize since 1961.

WCS used gold sovereigns as draw prizes until 1973.

WCS was the only Canadian Coin Club to produce club medals each year with local historical interest from 1961 to 1972.

WCS founder Bill English was "Bill the Coin Man" on the Big Al Show on CKCO-TV for many years in the late 1960's & early 1970's.

WCS treasurer Bruce Raszmann has been treasurer since joining the club in January 1960.

WCS held it's first and only Club Picnic on July 19, 1970 at Doon Pioneer Village.

WCS raised its club dues from $2 to $3 in 1972

WCS started publishing monthly auctions in its bulletin in March 1978 with 15 lots.

WCS issued its first wood token to congratulate the City of Waterloo on its 125th Anniversary on April 14, 1982 (909 tokens issued)

WCS issued its second wood token for the clubs 25th anniversary in January 1985 (250 tokens issued)

WCS held its 1st Annual Dinner Banquet  on June 21, 1983 at Angie's, St Agatha

WCS has been one a very clubs to hold summer meetings in July & August.  Started in July of 1970 to July of 1976, restarted again in 1992

WCS won ONA Newsletter of the Year Award for 1995

WCS won CNA Louise Graham Memorial Club of the Year Award in 1996

WCS won 1998 ONA Best Club Bulletin Award

WCS was a member of the ANA from 1959 to 1989
